Ministry: Russia imposes ban on air travel with Iran from Friday

MOSCOW, Feb 27 (PRIME) -- Russia has imposed a temporary ban on regular and charter flights to and from Iran, except for flights performed by national flagship carrier Aeroflot and Mahan air, all the flights will be moved to the F terminal of the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow, a representative of the Transport Ministry told reporters on Thursday.

“From 12 a.m. on February 28, we impose a temporary restriction on regular and charter flights from the territory of Russia to the territory of Islamic Republic of Iran and back. The ban does not cover air companies Aeroflot and Mahan air,” the person said.

On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that from Friday Russia would restrict visa issuance for entrance from Iran, excluding business and humanitarian trips due to an outbreak of coronavirus.

The representative of the Transport Ministry also said that restrictions on air connection with South Korea, which are to be slapped from Sunday, will not cover flights of Aeroflot and Korean Air, and air carriers Aurora, Siberia Airlines and Yakutia will only use their charter flights for evacuation of people back to their home states.

“From 12 a.m. on March 1, we will impose a temporary ban on regular and charter flights from the territory of Russia to the territory of South Korea and back. The ban does not cover Aeroflot and Air Korea flights… which will be performed strictly through the F terminal of the Sheremetyevo international airport,” the person said.

The spokesperson also said that Russia will cease train service between Moscow and France’s Nice from March 4 amid the spread of coronavirus. The train runs through several European countries, including Italy where over 500 coronavirus cases were reported.
